UFC 297 Results

The Scotiabank Arena hosted a wild and highly anticipating event as the first UFC PPV of 2024 showed plenty of submissions, split decisions and more. With all the incredible action that happened inside the Octagon, here are the results as to what happened at UFC 297.

 

Early Prelims

Malcolm Gordon vs Jimmy Flick (Flyweight Bout) - Flick wins via Arm-Triangle Choke (R2, 1:17).

'The Brick' earns his 15th career submission win and redeems his last two losses in the UFC. After an impressive victory in Canada, Jimmy Flick will aim to start a winning streak in order for him to get closer to the Flyweight rankings and show why he is a real contender in the organisation.

 

Jasmine Jasudavicius vs Priscila Cachoeira (Women's Bantamweight Bout) - Jasudavicius wins via Anaconda Choke (R3, 4:21).

Jasmine found redemption in her home country after an incredible Anaconda Choke finish to earn her second submission win in her MMA career. With this being Ontario-born fighter's first stoppage win in the UFC, it could be a big change as the Bantamweight contenders will be notified of a potential star.

 

Yohan Lainesse vs Sam Patterson (Welterweight Bout) - Patterson wins via Rear-Naked Choke (R1, 2:03).

Sam Patterson got the win he was looking for after a first-round submission win redeemed his home country knockout loss at UFC 286. After winning his first Welterweight bout, it may be The Future's primary weight division as he gets his first victory in the UFC.

 

Preliminary Card

Gillian Robertson vs Polyana Viana (Women's Strawweight Bout) - Robertson wins via TKO (R2, 3:12). 

'The Savage' earned her second KO/TKO win in her MMA career after a brilliant performance against Polyana Viana in her home country. Robertson is looking to become a Strawweight contender and if she starts a promising winning streak, that objective will be achieved.

 

Serhiy Sidey vs Ramon Taveras (Bantamweight Bout) - Taveras wins via Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

Ramon Taveras got revenge in the rematch against Serhiy Sidey to earn a win on his UFC debut. Despite achieving a split decision win at UFC 297, He will need some stoppage wins in order to boost his chances of getting closer to the Bantamweight rankings and become a threat in the division.

 

Charles Jourdain vs Sean Woodson (Featherweight Bout) - Woodson wins via Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

'The Sniper' did enough to earn a split decision victory and continue his undefeated streak to five. Woodson now has five wins out of seven fights in the UFC as he is becoming a very promising fighter in the Featherweight division. One more triumphant fight for Sean could see him fight for a contender's spot.

 

Brad Katona vs Garrett Armfield (Bantamweight Bout) - Armfield wins via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Garrett Armfield begins a winning streak in the UFC after getting a unanimous decision win in enemy territory. The Florida-born fighter rarely goes the distance but made this fight count to put his name on notice in the 135-pound division after defeating the two-time TUF winner.

 

Main Card

Arnold Allen vs Movsar Evloev (Featherweight Bout) - Evloev wins via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).  

Movsar Evloev remains undefeated with another decision win in the UFC, making it his eighth decision win in the organisation. The Russian fighter will move up to the top 5 in the Featherweight rankings and could get a title shot after his victory at UFC 297 or fight in a title-deciding fight in the future.

 

Chris Curtis vs Marc-Andre Barriault (Middleweight Bout) - Curtis wins via Split Decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27).

'Action-Man' proved why he is in the Middleweight rankings after earning a close split decision win in an incredible fight to keep his #14 contender's spot. After getting redemption in Toronto from an unlucky 2023, Curtis will aim to rise up the rankings and face more tough competition to prove why he is such as warrior. 

 

Neil Magny vs Mike Malott (Welterweight Bout) - Magny wins via TKO (R3, 4:45)

Neil Magny maintains his #13 Welterweight contender's spot after earning a comeback victory over Canada's own, Mike Malott. After 'The Haitian Sensation' earned his eighth career knockout win, he will look to boost up the rankings and prove to be a tough opponent as a UFC veteran.

 

Raquel Pennington vs Mayra Bueno Silva (Women's Bantamweight Title Bout) - Pennington wins via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-45).

Raquel Pennington becomes the new Queen of the Bantamweights after defeating Mayra Bueno Silva by unanimous decision to win the Vacant Women's Bantamweight title. With 'Rocky' becoming the full focus of the division, it will be interesting to see who will test the new champion in her first title defence.

 

Sean Strickland vs Dricus Du Plessis (Middleweight Title Bout) - Du Plessis wins via Split Decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47).

The Middleweight Championship changes hands once again as Dricus Du Plessis edges a split decision win to become the new King of the Middleweights and the first South African champion in the UFC. 'Stilknocks' is still undefeated in the UFC as he will now defend his UFC Gold against the top Middleweight contenders as questions will arise of who will be the first fighter to face the new champion.
