Riyadh Season: Two anticipating Boxing matches

Published on 25 January 2024 at 20:05

Boxing has become rather silent in the past few weeks, however, to incredible Heavyweight bouts are not far away and are going to highly anticipating for fans around the world. Here are the two Boxing matches you can look forward to in a few weeks and a month's time.

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk

Ever since the 3rd December 2022, this Heavyweight battle has been waiting to happen. Despite all the online trash talk, Fury and Usyk first set eyes on each other after The Gypsy King had defeated Derek Chisora by TKO at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There is a lot on the line in this Boxing match as both Fury and Usyk are undefeated in their professional careers as Fury has 34 wins and one draw whilst Usyk has 21 victories. There are plenty of titles on the line as this includes the IBF, IBO, WBA Super, WBC and WBO World Heavyweight Championships. An unmissable opportunity to make history and have all the title glory.

Tyson Fury's last performance seemed to see a lot of disappointment from the fighting community as he edged a split decision win over Boxing debutant and former UFC Heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. The Gypsy King was knocked down in the third round which is what had many fans believing he had lost his previous fight.

Oleksandr Usyk's most recent performance was very triumphant as he defeated Daniel Dubois by TKO in the ninth round to retain his world titles. There was some controversy in that fight as during the fifth round, Dubois landed a brutal body shot to the Ukrainian fighter which was called as a 'low blow' after Usyk dropped to the floor.

Both men have proven to be the greatest Boxers of this generation as Fury has won against many recognisable fighters such as Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte whilst Usyk has defeated the likes of Anthony Joshua, Tony Bellew and Derek Chisora

The hype is gradually building for this fight as the rivalry is becoming more heated as both men are desperate to win. Predictions for the fight will be tough as whoever is victorious in the end will be seen as the greatest Heavyweight Boxer of this generation.

Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou

It was seen as a possibility if these two former fighting champions would battle each other after Ngannou had fought Fury and Joshua recently being victorious against Otto Wallin as both fights occurred in Riyadh.

For AJ, it is one step closer to possibly facing Tyson Fury as that depends if The Gypsy King is victorious in his big Boxing bout. Now that Ngannou has experienced a professional boxing match against one of the best in this generation, he has the opportunity to get his first win in the sport and prove to the world that not only is he a great MMA fighter but a terrific Boxer as well.

Joshua's previous performance went smoothly against Wallin when he defeated him in the fifth round by referee technical decision. The Watford-born fighter had a very successful 2023 when he defeated Robert Helenius by a seventh round knockout and Jermaine Franklin Jr by unanimous decision as both of those fights were held in Greenwich.

The Predator's last performance may not have got him the victory, but it certainly proved many doubters wrong as he tested Fury to the distance and losing by split decision despite knocking down the world champion. It is still a question when Ngannou will return back to MMA as he has signed with the PFL and has not fought in the sport since his first UFC title defence against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270.

Anthony Joshua has fought plenty of big names in Heavyweight Boxing as he has defeated the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz. Ngannou is interested in a Boxing match against any top Heavyweight contender such as Deontay Wilder and Daniel Dubois as that may be his ticket to getting a shot for a world title.

This highly anticipated fight is getting a lot of people ready to see who will really win as despite Joshua being on a thrilling winning streak, Ngannou has come close to being the first man to defeat The Gypsy King. Regardless of the result, it is going to be a very exciting war to watch as two of the most recognisable names in the fighting community go head-to-head.

Who do you believe will be successful in Riyadh? What are your predictions for these two Boxing bouts?
