Top Five Most Wanted UFC Fights For 2024

Published on 2 August 2024 at 20:00

After the events of UFC 304, it is clear that some fights are looking more promising to make and fans cannot wait any longer to see two certain fighters face against each other in the Octagon. Here are five particular fights which the MMA community are hoping to witness in 2024.

ian machado garry vs colby covington

The Future and Chaos have been exchanging words on social media over a potential matchup that might just possibly happen, with the rivalry becoming more heated as the weeks pass by.

During March, Covington insisted that he would fight the Irishman on a video and would request some vile conditions which would not be deemed as acceptable, constantly bringing up Garry's wife for the majority of the video.

The Clovis-born fighter last fought at UFC 296 where he failed to capture the UFC Welterweight Championship against Leon Edwards, and now stands as the #4 contender of the division.

After Garry's victory against Geoff Neal at UFC 298, he was looking to find a way to rise up the Welterweight rankings so that he could be one step closer to title contention, hence why he wanted to face Covington in the Octagon.

It was thought that both men would face each other at UFC 303, but this would not be the case as Garry would fight Michael Page instead, winning by unanimous decision.

This possible future Welterweight bout could still happen and it definitely will be a one-to-watch at the press conference as two men who hate each others guts may finally settle their beef.

zhang weili vs tatiana suarez

Suarez has been eyeing a Strawweight title shot since her two consecutive second-round submission wins in 2023, with her most recent victory coming against Jessica Andrade at UFC Nashville.

TSP is undefeated with 11 wins and has earned six submission victories, due to her incredible wrestling as Suarez believes that she will cause problems for the champion on the ground, if they were to face off in the Octagon.

The #1 Strawweight contender has been eager to get her shot for the belt after Weili's last title defence.

Weili had one of her most toughest fights of her career after she went toe-to-toe with fellow Chinese fighter, Yan Xiaonan, at UFC 300 as she just picked up an unanimous decision win to keep her crown.

Magnum has been just as dangerous on the ground as she has been on the feet, becoming one of the most impressive female fighters in the UFC and will most likely not miss an opportunity to beat an undefeated fighter.

This battle for Strawweight Gold will be expected to take place just before the end of 2024 as the UFC plan to set up title fights for the rest of the year, Weili vs Suarez will definitely be a key one that the matchmakers will look into.

renato moicano vs paddy pimblett

The UFC Lightweight division is arguably the most eye-catching and entertaining, and it is exactly that as to what you can say about Moicano and Pimblett's current runs in the UFC.

The Brazilian has been tempted to take the hype off Pimblett and use that to his advantage to climb up the Lightweight rankings as he has called out the Englishman on numerous occasions.

Moicano last fought at UFC 300 where he would secure a second-round TKO win over Jalin Turner, and would become the #10 Lightweight contender. It would be an impressive victory after he was brutally knocked down in the first round.

Pimblett has not ignored the callouts of the Brasilia-born mixed martial artist as he did welcome him to fight at UFC 304 in Manchester, but the possible anticipating battle would not take place.

The Baddy ended up fighting Bobby Green at UFC 304 and would pull off a spectacular first-round submission win which would see him enter the Lightweight rankings and keep him undefeated in the UFC.

During his post-fight interview, Pimblett did make a callout to the Brazilian as it would only mean that he would be able to boost up the rankings, making this fight seem very possible towards the end of the year as both men will be hungry to go to war.

belal muhammad vs shavkat rakhmonov

A future Welterweight fight which had been talked about in the UFC could finally happen after the Main Event result of UFC 304 as Muhammad now stands as the King of the 170-pound division.

Remember The Name pulled off an upset victory over Leon Edwards in Manchester, winning by unanimous decision and securing the UFC Welterweight title.

Muhammad's resume is looking more impressive as he increases his unbeaten streak to eleven, plus, the champion did mention in the post-fight press conference that he would take on Rakmonov in his first title defence.

The Kazakhstan fighter has been unstoppable in MMA, currently undefeated and holds a 100% finish rate with eight KO/TKO and 10 submission wins out of 18 career victories.

Nomad last fought at UFC 296 where he became the first man to submit Stephen Thompson, securing the submission win in the second round of the fight as Rakhmonov believes that he deserves a shot at the belt or fight once more before earning his title glory opportunity.

It only seems right that this title fight should happen in 2024 since Rakhmonov has not fought since December 2023. MMA fans are interested to see whether Muhammad will carry on his unbeaten streak or if the #3 Welterweight contender will continue his flawless finish rate.

jon jones vs tom aspinall

UFC fans cannot stop asking for this exciting Heavyweight battle to be made, especially after Aspinall's impressive performance in his home country at UFC 304 which really makes the fight more interesting to see who can really be victorious.

Jones has remained as UFC Heavyweight Champion since March 2023 when he submitted Ciryl Gane in the first round at UFC 285. Bones was then set to face Stipe Miocic at UFC 295, but the bout would be cancelled due to an injury from the Rochester-born fighter.

The acclaimed G.O.A.T of the UFC has not been seen in the Octagon since as he refuses to face Aspinall until he has fought Miocic. Jones would rather let the Englishman fight someone else instead of waiting for the potential matchup.

The Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion has been wanting to fight the King of the Heavyweights ever since his short notice title win against Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295, where Aspinall won by first-round knockout.

The Salford-born fighter has already had more title defences with the interim belt compared to the undisputed champion as he made quick work of Curtis Blaydes, defeating the #5 contender by first-round TKO at UFC 304.

The MMA community knows that Aspinall is Jones' toughest test and it could be his first possible loss since December 2009. If Miocic is unable to fight in the expected Heavyweight title clash of UFC 309 at MSG, Aspinall may finally get his desired wish.

Will we see any of these fights in 2024? Which bout are you looking forward to the most?
