Could an unprecedented series of events find Kylian Mbappé wearing Liverpool colours?

Kylian Mbappe – the face of football’s most exhausting transfer saga, is set to make a decision regarding his future this transfer window. The Frenchman, whose contract with Paris Saint Germain expires in the coming summer, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent years.

Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s Los Blancos seemingly being the club where his childhood dreams would be fulfilled, a position of wealth and influence within his current position as PSG’s Starman has seemingly prevented a lucrative move.

While unlikely, multiple reports coming out of France and Spain this week have added a twist to this transfer tale. News first broke last week, when reports of Mbappe signing a pre contract to join Real Madrid made their way online, before being quickly rebuked by the 25-year old’s entourage.

“There is no agreement around Kylian’s future, especially since there are no discussions started about it,” the Frenchman’s camp stated in an interview with RMC Sport. “No type of influence could dictate the timing of Kylian’s discussions, reflections or decision.”

As the dates edge closer to the reported mid-January deadline set by Real Madrid regarding their willingness to sign the striker, according to reliable sources, Mbappe’s camp remain open to a possible Premier League move, with Liverpool being the favorites to get his signature should the Frenchman take the leap.

Accompanying this information, sources also suggest the 25-year-old is excited by the idea of working under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s boss and lead figure. However unlikely the financial terms would allow such a transfer, it is reported John W Henry – owner of the Reds – has made it his personal mission to acquire the skills of the Frenchman, should Mohammed Salah leave Merseyside this summer.

Nevertheless, nothing concrete has formed within recent weeks, leaving both Real Madrid and Liverpool fans alike increasingly anxious over the more likely possibility of a contract extension in Paris. Speaking to RMC, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated, ‘For me he is the best in the world, I have a very good relationship with him. Not only as a player, as a person.

‘He has an agreement with me, as he has said. There is no negotiation, but I think he is still young, he wants to win many trophies and hopefully with us.’

Perhaps the most complicated aspect to a move for the Parisian, the wages he currently earns at PSG will be incredibly difficult for any club to meet. It is reported that Mbappe earns a staggering 1.74 million a week under his current contract with PSG, ensuring that it would make all the more sense for a contract extension, from a financial point of view. Should the 25-year-old leave Paris in the summer, it is likely he would have to settle for a significant pay cut in the pursuit of legacy defining trophies.

Amongst all the uncertainty regarding this saga, one this is for sure – transfer enthusiasts will not rest until the matter is settled.
