Arsenal vs Liverpool - Match Preview

Published on 3 February 2024 at 20:00

League leaders Liverpool head to the Emirates on Sunday to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Following an impressive 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night, Liverpool look ahead to further their chance of securing the league title when they travel to London on Sunday night. Arsenal, who are currently five points short of the Premier League summit, will hope to build upon their return to form at home.

When asked about the possible implications of Sunday’s result during his pre-match press conference, Liverpool gaffer Jürgen Klopp stated, “It's good but you cannot really add that on. Shall I go to the boys in the dressing room and say, 'If we win against Arsenal we are eight points between us and them...?’ Everybody knows that. If we lose, we are still two points ahead, but then City are the big winner of a game they are not even involved in.”

Regardless of the chosen attitude each team approaches this gargantuan match with, a win for Arteta’s Gunners closes the five-point gap that Arsenal fans were so disheartened to watch unfold following Christmas, effectively re-entering the London side back into the title race.

In regard to the stakes that the upcoming match may hold, Arteta stated, “What we need to do is play the way we played in the last two games against them, and be more efficient in the areas that are going to decide the game. I’m very excited, it’s always great to prepare a game against Liverpool; how good they are, they dominate every aspect of the game. We play at home, and what I sense is a real sense of positivity and enthusiasm around the place.”

Kick off commences at 16:30 on Sunday 4th February. The showdown will be available to watch on Sky Sports Main Event.

The Opta supercomputer could not split the two sides when giving a prediction, leaving both sides with a 35.9% chance at victory, granting a strong 28.2% chance of shared points.
