Huddersfield Town VS Burnley FC Match Preview 29/07/2022

Published on 29 July 2022 at 16:05

The 2022/23 Championship season is kicking off this evening with two sides who saw disappointment at the end of their previous campaigns; with Huddersfield missing out on the Premier League at the final stage and Burnley being unsuccessful in continuing their successful reign in the top division.

It would be very unwise to presume both clubs will be lining up in a similar format to last year as both clubs have seen an array of changes over the last couple of months.

Let's start with Burnley, during the end of their campaign last year many will know that the Lancashire side lost a huge household name at their club in Sean Dyche who’s 9 and a half year tenure came to a bitter end. With a last ditch attempt of survival under 23’s manager Mike Jackson came in to try to guide the Clarets to safety- which he missed out on doing on the final day of the season.

This year however there is a complete change around, previous manager of Anderlecht Vincent Kompany has been brought in during the summer to try and bring success to Turf Moor once again. I feel this new appointment has a lot of potential and I’m almost certain there will be a complete rebrand in football style too. With multiple key outgoings such as - Nick Pope, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Wout Weghorst, Matej Vydra, Nathan Collins and recently departing Dwight Mcneil Burnley will be displaying a completely different team to last year. However, Burnley haven't been shy of a signing either with 9 new arrivals this window. With a third of Burnleys of Burnleys signings being from Kompanys ex club Manchester City and with the managers experience at Anderlecht it would be reasonable to think a more attractive playing style will be introduced.

Now onto Huddersfield Town, the Terriers also had a departing manager however this occurred just after them missing out on a place in the Premiership in their Play off Final loss. However unlike Burnley Huddersfield have replaced Carlos Corberan with a familiar face at the club in Danny Schofield. The new man in charge has had two previous stints as Huddersfield Caretaker manager so his experience at the club could provide reassurance to the players that the club is going in the right direction.

With the Yorkshire side also appointing a new manager and having a busy transfer window even the home supporters might be uncertain on how this team will perform out on the pitch tonight. With huge names such as Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’brien departing the club to last year's promotion rivals Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield have no choice but to integrate their new signings from this summer transfer window.

How do we expect both teams to line up tonight then?

Huddersfield 4-4-2 :

Nicholls, Turton, Lees, Edmonds-Green, Ruffels, Hogg, Russell, Holmes, Thomas, Koroma, Ward.

Burnley 4-2-2-2 (narrow) :

Peacock-Farrell, Roberts, Egan-Riley, Harwood-Bellis, Taylor, Brownhill, Cullen, Bastien, Twine, Barnes, Rodriguez.

Where and when?

20:00 Uk time at the John Smith’s Stadium

My Prediction: 1-1
