In this season of Formula 2, drivers have some incredible talent between them. They’re the bright stars for the future of motorsports. While most dream of Formula 1, these Formula 2 drivers are in the making. The Formula 2 graduate drivers compile of Mick Schumacherer, Charles Leclerc, George Russel and more who have made it to Formula 1.

So, let’s take a look at some of the finest.

Théo Pourchaire

The current standing leader is French driver Théo Pourchaire. A Sauber academy driver made his debut in 2020 and currently has 6 wins and 12 podiums in his Formula 2 career. He competed in both Formula 4 and 3, in which he won the French F4 junior championship. He finished runner-up behind Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri in the 2020 Formula 3 championship. He missed out by only 3 points. Pourchaire is racing for a French team, ART Grand Prix, and is a test and reserve driver for Alfa Romeo.

Frederik vesti

Frederik Vesti is sitting in second place. The 21-year-old Danish driver is only 3 points away from first in the driver championship, whilst his team, Prema Racing, is the front-runner. In 2021 Vesti became a Mercedes junior team driver. He has hopped between two teams throughout his career. He tested for Prema racing in 2019 before signing with his previous team ART Grand Prix in 2021 for the Formula 3 championship. After that, he returned to Prema for the 2023 Formula 2 season.

Ayumu Iwasa

Ayumi Iwasa is the future of Red Bull racing. Their junior Japanese driver made an impressive debut in European racing by winning the French Formula 4 championship. He earned himself 9 race wins and 15 podiums, and he finished the 2020 season with 338 points. His impressive record hasn’t slowed down as he progressed, either. This 2023 season is his second season in Formula 2, and he currently sits in third with second place near in sight. His aim to improve his fifth-place finish in his rookie season last year is going smoothly.

Oliver Bearman

Prema Racing’s other driver Oliver Bearman is in his debut season, and what a start he has made. His Formula 2 record shows 2 wins, 2 podiums and 1 pole position. The British youngster has 2 championship titles, the Italian Formula 4 championship and ADAC Formula 4, both in 2021. He narrowly missed a Formula 3 championship title by 7 points, resulting in his final third position. In 2021 he secured his place in the Ferrari driver academy. His most recent ground-breaking result was in Baku when he came first in every round. Free practice, Qualifying, Sprint and the feature race. His rookie season is showing to be very successful in Formula 2.

Kush Maini

Kush Maini comes in at fifth place in the current standings. The Indian driver is racing for Campos Racing, who are fourth in the team championship. 2023 is also Maini’s Formula 2 debut season. So far, the rookie has 1 podium out of 8 entries. His best championship result was in 2020 during the BRDC British Formula 3 championship, coming second. Despite finishing fourteenth in Formula 3, he earned his seat, and with 41 points already, he is thriving.
